DEV CHRONICLE: UNRELEASED BUILDINGS

Among the many ideas woven into the grand tapestry of Spellcasters Chronicles were several building concepts imagined by the Quanticians to further expand strategic possibilities across the lands of Ashkenon. François-Xavier Yacono, Game Designer responsible for these creations, looks back at the origins of three unreleased buildings: the Flying Tower, the Countermeasure, and the Feral Tree.

Flying Tower

“The Flying Tower is a floating monolith that fires devastating laser beams at its target,” explains François-Xavier. It was conceived as a new kind of offensive building, giving Spellcasters an additional answer to the game's largest creatures without relying solely on spells. “The idea was to create a building that would destroy large creatures with its devastating beam.”

For François-Xavier, the Flying Tower had all the ingredients to become a fan favorite among strategists looking for new ways to counter powerful threats, whether enemy Spellcasters or their creatures. “It's a very impressive building, and the game was lacking something like it during Early Access. I'm convinced it would have created some very interesting shifts in the meta once implemented.”

Countermeasure

The second concept was more discreet, but no less strategic. The Countermeasure focused entirely on aerial defense. “It's a small cannon that fires multiple projectiles to intercept enemy attacks and flying units. We had several flying creatures in development, so we needed summons capable of countering them for players who preferred a more ground-focused army.” Its primary role was to protect friendly forces by creating an aerial defensive wall to protect your creatures and buildings.

François-Xavier believes the building would have naturally appealed to players who enjoyed defensive playstyles. “We saw that many players loved building strong defensive lines, and the Countermeasure would have been an excellent addition to the defensive structures already available in the game.”

Feral Tree

This last one embodied an even more imposing vision of territorial control. “Imagine a tree that attacks or blocks enemies around it by bending its trunk, and with every successful hit regenerates itself by draining the life force of its opponents!” Beyond its sheer power, the Feral Tree was designed to become a true anchor point on the battlefield. “It would have been a massive Rank 4 building capable of capturing an objective entirely on its own. Its purpose was to create a permanent threat as well as a staging point for future attacks.” A major summon that, unfortunately, never made it beyond the drawing board—and one that will have to keep growing in our imagination.
